View LAS files in a text editor

In order to view LAS files when importing them using the Drillhole Utilities |Special Tools | LAS File Import Wizard , files with a .LAS file extension must be associated with a text editor installed on your computer.

The menu selections and buttons described below may be different depending on your version of Windows. If in doubt, ask your system administrator for help in setting up a new .LAS file type.

To associate LAS files with a text editor or viewer application:

  1. Select Tools | Folder Options from Windows Explorer.
  2. In the File Types tab, click the New button.
  3. Enter LAS as the file extension.
  4. Click the Change button.
  5. To associate LAS files with a text editor or viewer application, select the Select program from list option and click OK.
  6. In the Open With dialog box, select the application (typically a text editor such as Notepad or some other file viewer application) you want to use to open and view LAS files.
  7. Finally, click the Close button to finish specifying a new LAS file type.
