Descriptive Statistics

This function calculates and reports various descriptive statistics about a field in a selected file.

  1. Select File | Utilities | Manage from the menu.

  2. Select the Type of file you want to display descriptive statistics for. Select a file from the list of files of that type.

  3. Choose DESCRIPTIVE STATS  from the Mode drop down list.

  4. Click the OK button. A dialog box appears listing the fields in the file and their characteristics. Select the field for which you require statistics.

  5. Click the OK button. The Descriptive statistics function will read the contents of the file and calculate the various values. A progress indicator will appear in the status bar at the lower edge of the screen, followed by a dialog box containing the results of the calculations. 

The Descriptive Statistics tool in the File Editor also works on Character fields. If a character field is selected, the unique values in that field and their frequency are reported.
