Upgrading form sets between versions

Each new major version of Micromine uses a new form set database so that it can support new features without affecting existing settings. This is particularly important in a multi-user environment where some users may still be using an earlier version of the software.

The form set database upgrade is automatic when you first open a project.

Open an existing project in the current version

To open an existing project in the current version simply open the project as normal.

Micromine will perform the form set upgrade and create a completely new form set database. Existing previous version form sets are not altered in any way.

Once anyone in your organisation completes this upgrade the current version will no longer have access to any form sets created or modified in previous versions after the upgrade. If your workplace includes a mixture of current and previous versions and you wish to interchange form sets, you will have to use the steps outlined below.

Exchanging Form Sets between the current version and the previous version

A small number of form sets

To exchange saved form sets between the current version and the previous version (or earlier) after a project has been opened in the current version:

Save the form set in the version of Micromine you are copying from.
On the Forms dialog, Export the saved form set to a Micromine Exported Set File (*.mmsetx).
Switch to the Micromine version you are copying to.
Select Tools | Form Sets | Import from the main menu and browse to the .mmsetx file.
If appropriate, enable Import all sets.
Click the Import button to import the form sets.

Many form sets

To exchange many saved form sets between the current version and the previous version:

In the Micromine version you are copying from, select Tools | Form Sets | Export from the main menu.
Choose from either the All forms or Used in macro export options.
Enter the name of a Formset file.
Switch to the Micromine version you are copying to.
Select Tools | Form Sets | Import from the main menu and browse to the exported file.
If appropriate, enable Import all sets.
Click the Import button to import the form sets.

Form sets introduced or significantly enhanced in the current version may have no previous equivalent and cannot be shared with earlier versions.

Using the Form Set Manager

Alternatively you may use the Form Set Manager (via Tools | Form Sets | Manage) to choose individual form sets for exporting.

Save all relevant form sets in the copied-from Micromine version.
Select Tools | Form Sets | Manage from the main menu and expand all of the nodes containing form sets to be exported.
Select the form sets and then click the Export button.
Select Tools | Form Sets | Import from the main menu in the copied-to Micromine version and browse to the exported file.
If appropriate, enable Import all sets.
Click the Import button to import the form sets.
