System Compatibility
64-bit
Micromine 2020 is now only available in 64-bit architecture. This allows Micromine to make better use of the computer resources and ensure more efficient and faster data processing in a variety of scenarios.
Micromine 2018 is now the last Micromine version to support 32-bit.
Microsoft introduced its first 64-bit operating system (Windows XP) in 2005, and nowadays virtually every PC runs 64-bit windows. You will not be affected by this change unless you are using a very old computer or operating system.
RAM (memory)
You can never have too much memory on a 64-bit PC. For Micromine 64-bit we recommend a minimum of 16 GB for daily use and 32 GB or more for advanced use with large data volumes.
64-bit Drivers
Exchanging data between Micromine and Microsoft Access requires drivers that match the Micromine architecture (e.g. you need 64-bit Access drivers to exchange data with Micromine 64-bit). These drivers are typically obtained by installing Microsoft Office.
Microsoft recommends using 32-bit Office on 64-bit Windows because it prevents compatibility issues with other 32-bit applications and third-party plugins. Furthermore, the 64-bit and 32-bit Office suites cannot be installed side-by-side. This may produce a driver mismatch between Micromine 64-bit and Microsoft Office.
The simplest way to overcome a driver mismatch is to use the Micromine version that matches your office version . The table below provides instructions for choosing 64-bit drivers based on the currently installed Office version.
Choosing drivers for Microsoft Access compatibility
Nowadays, Microsoft Office doesn’t come with built-in drivers, requiring you to install them before you can exchange data with Micromine.
In this document we treat Office 365 subscription and standalone Office 2016 as the same product. In addition, because the 32-bit version of Office is installed by default, we focus on that version:
64-bit Micromine with 32-bit Access
This is the most common configuration:.
- Download the Access 2010 64-bit redistributable (dated July 1, 2016)
- Choose AccessDatabaseEngine_X64.exe
- Install it via a command prompt with the /passive flag, e.g.:
CD c:/<downloaded location> AccessDatabaseEngine_x64.exe /passive

If the architectures match, simply install the drivers for your Office architecture and version (e.g. 64-bit office 2016).
Caution: Be careful: applying the wrong architecture to your existing Office version may destroy it! Please contact your local MICROMINE support office if you need help with these configurations.
