Create a flat switchback

Use the Flat Switchback function to automatically switch the direction of the current road from clockwise to anticlockwise (or vice versa) by generating a flat switchback.

Click the Flat Switchback tool on the Pit Design Toolbar. If not already selected, you will be prompted to select a TOE, CREST or CONTOUR line on which a road has been created.

If not already selected, you will be prompted to select the red road point on which to build the switchback.

The following properties are displayed in the Flat Switchback Properties form:

Curve Radius

Specify a radius value that will be used to determine the extent and tightness of the curve of the turning area.

Road Switchback Angle

By default the switchback angle is 180°. To turn the road by a different amount, enter an angle value.

Radius Specified By

The radius is measured from a specified (Inner , Centre, Outer, or Custom ) point on the road, taking into account the road width (which is already defined as part of the properties of the road).

• Inner curve radius must be greater than 0

• Outer curve radius must be greater than the road width

• Centre curve radius must be greater than half of the road width

To measure the radius from a specific point on the road, select the Custom option and specify a value which is a factor of the road width.

Inset Radius

If the Inset Radius check box is selected, specify a secondary Curve radius value that will be used with the primary curve radius to determine the tightness of the curve of the turning area.
