Section + Plan Plot

You can plot a section and the corresponding plan view of that section in a SECTION+PLAN plot.

To create SECTION + PLAN plot:

  1. First of all, if you have not already done so, create a Section plot file and a Plan plot file.
  2. Select the Plot | Generate Plot File menu option when the plan data you want to plot is open in Vizex. Turn off the Auto load plot file check box option before you save the plan plot file.

  1. Create a layout by loading a Section + Plan layout template. Alternatively, individually add the 2D Plot frames that will be used to display the Plan and Section plots you have created. See: Create a new layout from a template
  2. You can also load a Section + Plan frame from the Plot Forms pane. The options you are most likely to need for a particular type of layout, are provided as predefined frame form sets.

  1. The next step is to establish the link between the Plan plot and the Section plot (however, if you have loaded a SECTION+ PLAN template, the link will already be established).
  2. Think of the Section plot as the primary plot. The Plan plot is there to show information about the Section and therefore needs to reference the Section plot.

Set the Reference Plot property of the Plan plot frame to Section plot.

  1. (Optional) Add a Section Window as a child of the Plan Plot frame (however, if you have loaded a SECTION+ PLAN template, the section window is already included).
  2. The Section Window is used to annotate the plan view so that it is clear which data in the plan view is shown in the section plot.

You can display lines at the section coordinate and the extent of the data corridor defined by the Window Towards and Window Away parameters of the Section plot.

In Vizex, downhole ticks, labels, and graphs etc are drawn at right-angles to the trace. For the angles to be correct when plotting a section with vertical exaggeration set, the exaggeration in the plot must match the exaggeration that was set in Vizex (at the time the plot file was generated).
