Substitution Parameters
Substitution parameters enable you to easily change the data on a plot that is specific to that plot or series of plots.
For example, add a section number, the current date, or a sheet number to the text in a plot layout.
When you include substitution parameters, they can either be user-defined or predefined.
User-defined
You can set up your own substitution parameters in the Substitutions table. User-defined substitutions can be anything you want to add to the text of a layout as a variable.
Predefined
Some commonly-used variables have been predefined as substitutions and you do not need to include them in the Substitutions table. However, you still need to prefix them with the @ sign when you reference them.
There are two kinds of Predefined Substitution Parameters: Global and Plot File.
- Think of Global substitutions as system variables (current date, project name etc.) you can add to the text of a layout. These kinds of substitution exist for the current session.
- Plot file substitutions are written to the plot file at the time the file is generated. Think of these as variables (Scale, xCentre, yCentre, SecWinAway, SecWinTowards etc.) that describe the data in the plot frame or identify the author of the plot.
You can also use Substitutions with macros.
