Usability

Usability options are available for selection on the Usability tab of the Options form:

The Usability tab of the Options form

Prompt for row deletions

As a safeguard you can choose to be prompted to confirm any deletions. This option is turned on by default. It may sometimes be convenient to temporarily turn this option off when making bulk edits.

Prompt for parent unapproval

Select this option if you would like to be prompted whenever a parent row will be unapproved by the current action. This can happen when a child row is added to an approved parent row.

Defer grid loading on schema load

This option is turned off by default, which means that data is displayed as you load it. However, if you are working with very large datasets, you may have chosen to turn this option on. See: Defer Grid Loading on Schema Load

Automatically expand drop down lists

This option is turned on by default. When you click anywhere on a DropDown column, the drop-down list is automatically displayed. If this option is turned off, you will need to click on the DropDown menu to expand the list.

A Drop Dow List in a table

Note that:

  • Even if the dropdown menu is disabled, the data which is entered will still be validated against the same codes available via the dropdown list (you just will not see them – this option may be acceptable for users who have a good understanding of the logging codes).
  • Even if the dropdown is set to automatically expand, data can still be entered manually by typing into the cell (also by clicking on or navigating to the desired option using the keyboard once the dropdown opens). The available options will still be displayed as you type.

After any of these options have been enabled/disabled, you must close and re-open the profile for the changes to take effect.

Enable Grid Animation

This option is selected by default. When you scroll through a data view with a large number of records, records that are out of view, below the bottom of the pane, are faded into the view as you scroll down.

On some devices this animation may be slow to take effect, giving the impression that the application is running slowly. In such cases, you may prefer to turn Enable grid animation off.

Use legacy format for Micromine export

Micromine .DAT data files now support a variable size extended header and fields containing binary data. Select this option to export to the legacy .DAT file format, rather than the latest file format.

Always use offline help

This option is disabled by default. However, if your connection to the internet is slow or unreliable, you may prefer to view pre-compiled "offline" help files rather than the published webhelp. Note that the online help is updated on a more frequent basis.

When sorting show blanks after other records

Select this option to sort blank records so that they are always shown after other records, within the context of the sort order.

If a Column is sorted in Ascending order (default) the blank are below the cells with values; if the Column is sorted in Descending order, i.e. it is alphabetically reversed, the blanks are shown above the cells with values.
