Set the properties of the new road in the Road Properties form.
After defining Road Properties, the point nearest to the road point is moved, or a new point is inserted, to form a road entrance:
As you generate the walls of the pit, the road will be generated with it. Unless you are creating a switchback, try not to move the road around, as this can cause problems as you generate the pit higher up.
If you want to digitise a road manually (rather than generate a road using the Add Road tool) select the New Pit String | Road option. This invokes the New String function. In this case, however, the type of the string is set to Road.
Switchback
Select the Road | Switchback | Flat option (or click on the Flat Switchback button on the Pit Design toolbar and select a red road point) to automatically switch the direction of the current road from clockwise to anti-clockwise (or vice versa). See: Create a flat switchback
Flat Section
Select the Road | Flat Section option (or click on the Flat Section button on the Pit Design toolbar and select a red road point) to generate horizontal parts of a road for a specified distance, including the option of having flat road sections between benches. This is a technical requirement in many mines. See: Create a flat section of road
Manual Road Edge
Select the Road | Manual Road Edge option to manually build a haul road that ascends or descends from a selected (crest or toe) start string. See: Create a manual road edge
